Root Canal Treatment in Esher

Treating the inside of a tooth

Root canal treatment aims to retain a tooth whose pulp, the tissue containing nerves and blood vessels, is inflamed or infected. Deep decay, a leaking restoration or a crack or dental injury can be responsible. Pain can be severe, but some affected teeth cause little discomfort. Diagnosis depends on examination and imaging rather than symptoms alone. Your dentist will explain whether endodontic care is appropriate and what alternatives are available.

Specialist endodontics in Esher

Dr Kazim Mahmood is our Principal Dentist and Specialist Endodontist. Complex root canal problems can be assessed on site, including retreatment of previously treated teeth and dental trauma. We review the tooth’s remaining structure, root anatomy and gum support before planning care. A history of persistent toothache or a recurring gum swelling can help guide the investigation. Specialist assessment does not guarantee a particular outcome, but helps clarify the options.

What treatment may involve

Local anaesthetic is used to help keep you comfortable, and a protective dental dam isolates the tooth. The canals are accessed, cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed when appropriate. Care may be spread across more than one visit, particularly for complex cases or retreatment. An emergency visit may begin treatment or provide temporary relief rather than complete the entire procedure. Antibiotics do not replace treatment of an infected root canal.

Restoration and follow-up

A secure final filling or crown helps protect the treated tooth from leakage and fracture. Until it is restored, avoid hard biting on it. Some tenderness can occur after treatment, but increasing pain, swelling or loss of a temporary restoration needs advice. Attend recommended reviews so healing can be monitored. If a tooth cannot be saved, tooth extraction and replacement choices can be discussed. The aim is an informed decision, not treatment at any cost.
