Tooth Extraction in Esher

Deciding whether removal is necessary

Removing a tooth is considered when it cannot be restored predictably or is affecting neighbouring tissues. Extensive decay, an irreparable tooth fracture, advanced gum disease or some wisdom-tooth problems may be reasons. Pain alone does not establish that extraction is necessary. We assess whether a filling, crown or root canal treatment could retain the tooth, explain the alternatives and give you time to understand the decision.

Planning care around your health

Your dentist examines the tooth and its roots, using an X-ray where needed. Tell us about medical conditions, allergies and medicines, especially blood thinners and medicines affecting bone healing. Do not stop prescribed treatment yourself. Our on-site oral surgeon can assess more complex removals. If swelling or infection is present, the plan also considers how to manage this safely. The technique and timing depend on your individual findings.

During the appointment

Local anaesthetic numbs the area. You may feel pressure or movement, but you should tell the dentist if you feel pain so this can be addressed. Some teeth can be removed simply; others require a surgical approach and possibly stitches. The dentist explains the expected procedure and aftercare in advance. An emergency assessment does not guarantee removal that day: consent, clinical complexity and appropriate appointment time all affect what can safely be done.

Healing and future choices

A blood clot protects the socket while it heals. Avoid rinsing, spitting or disturbing the area for the first 24 hours, and follow the specific instructions you receive. Contact us for persistent bleeding or worsening pain, especially pain developing a few days later. After healing, replacement options may include a bridge, implant or denture where appropriate. Existing denture fit and repairs can also be reviewed if tooth loss changes how your appliance sits.
